WHAT TYPE OF LEADER ARE YOU?
In today’s economy, uncertainty is certain.
Jobs, careers and even companies disappear. In this very competitive environment, we have to show good credentials as well as great attributes to survive. Knowledge is not enough. Now we need to also display appropriate behaviours. Meaning, useful, powerful and effective habits coupled with high emotional intelligence. All of these traits integrated into a pleasant personality.
Let’s have a closer look at these “winner” attributes…
- KNOWLEDGE – What is known – gained through study or experience.
This is the easy part, as knowledge can be acquired. Once we have identified what the job requires, we can get the adequate education. We just need a good, healthy brain, hard work and money. this is just a blank line blank line blank line blank line blank line blank line blank line blank line blank line - BEHAVIOUR – Conduct, actions and reactions displayed in given situations.
Can we learn it ? Actually, it is more something we need to own. But first, we need to identify the expected behaviours for the position? Then, find someone who displays them successfully and spend as much time as possible with that person to emulate them until they become yours.this is just a blank line blank line blank line blank line blank line blank line blank line blank line - HABITS – Recurrent, often unconscious pattern of behaviour.
They get acquired through frequent repetition. The control of our habits is largely influenced by our level of Emotional Intelligence. First, our bad and deserving habits need to be indentified and then, once under control, replaced by effective habits. There is no need to re-invent the wheel here. In his Book, “The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People”™, Steven Covey has listed and detailed the 7 habits he had observed in successful and effective individuals over the years. In a nutshell, this is what, based on Covey’s book, highly effective people do:
SELF-MASTERY:
Habit # 1 – Be pro-active (self determination, initiative, choice and responsibility)
Habit # 2 – Begin with the end in mind (personal leadership)
Habit # 3 – Put first thing first (personal management; organization and implementation of activities)
PERSONALITY:
Habit # 4 – Interpersonal leadership (win-win interactions, co-operation and team work).
Habit # 5 – Effective communication – seek first to understand, then to be understood™ (people and relationship management)
Habit # 6 – Synergize (Creative Cooperation – the whole is greater than the sum of the parts™)
GROWTH:
Habit # 7 – Self-renewal at your physical, spiritual, mental and emotional/social level (Good balance in life). YOU are your best asset. Only with proper self-care you can continually move on. No one can keep on going when feeling burned-out.this is just a blank line blank line blank line blank line blank line blank line blank line blank line blank line - EMOTIONAL INTELLIGENCE (E.I.) – Ability to monitor our own or others’ emotions.
In order to develop your E.I. you need to learn to identify, understand and manage your emotions. You control your emotions; they don’t control you. To better show the spectrum of E. I., the major traits have been divided into two main categories; personal competencies (intra) and social competencies (inter).
In summary, this is what E.I. is about.

In order to feel confident in your capacity to perform, you need to be aware of your strengths, your weaknesses, your values, your aptitudes and capabilities.
You need to know who you are, in order to become who you want to be.
By understanding what and how you feel, you can act on your emotions as they also are signals for actions or cries for change. Self-awareness is the key of all knowledge. In his profound wisdom Socrates said “Know yourself and you will know the universe.”
Where do you stand today? In a scale from 1 (very poor) to 10 (excellent), how would you rate yourself in each discipline?
Do you want to master your destiny?
